Books, books and more books

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give you all a little update on what i'm up to on the book scene.

So you have all seen what books I purchased in April but already I have 5 books for my May haul...

I bought a few books online and am still waiting for 2 of them to come in the post and made a conscious decision to put myself on a book buying ban.

Then today happened...

I was in the shops and Waterstones somehow managed to suck me in and I drifted towards my favourite corner of the shop and before I knew it I bought 2 new books taking my May haul total up to 5 within 7 days...

I have a serious problem.

Hi my name is Leigh and I am a book shopaholic!

I have my big exam for college a week tomorrow and I am trying to focus on studying for that and trying not to read as much as I have been. I'm struggling with the theory but am hoping that some good questions come up and I can at least get a decent amount of marks for that part.

Well just to let you know that I will be MIA for the next week...

April Book Haul...

Hey everyone,

So it's time for my April Book Haul, this month i've done a little reading but not a whole lot especially towards the end of the month and i'm not sure how much reading will get done in May since I have my exam to prepare for. Anyway here is the haul:

Here is the first book that I got this month. I've been waiting for this book since I found out that Jenny Colgan was writing another one like Welcome to the Cupcake Cafe which I adored. I already read this book while I was in Inverness and it was so good.

The blurb says:

Were you a sherbet lemon or a chocolate lime fan? Penny chews or hard boiled sweeties (you do get more for your money that way)? The jangle of your pocket money...the rustle of the pink and green striped paper bag.

Rosie Hopkins thinks leaving her busy London life, and her boyfriend Gerard, to sort out her elderly aunt Lilian's sweetshop in a small country village is going to be dull. Boy, is she wrong.

Lilian Hopkins has spent her life running Lipton's sweetshop, through wartime and family feuds. As she struggles with the idea that it might finally be time to settle up, she also wrestles with the secret history hidden behind the jars of beautifully coloured sweets

The second book that I got this month was Going La La by Alexandra Potter which I haven't had a chance to read yet since i've been too busy trying to catch up with books i've been trying to get through for a while, anyway it looks like a good book and hopefully i'll get to read it soon.

The blurb on this one says:

Frankie's life is falling apart. In less than a week she's gone from having everything - a great job, lovely flat and gorgeous Hugh - to having nothing at all.

Devastated, dumped and on the dole, she packs her bags and flies to Los Angeles to stay with an old friend. Her goal? To sort out her life and get over Hugh. She does not, repeat not, go to LA to fall head over heels for an American photographer called Reilly and to run away to Las Vegas.

But what happens when Hugh wants her back? Who will she choose? And is it really true that whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?

The third book this month was It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han, after reading the first book in the series and fell in love with it I was really looking forward to the second and I did really like it but not as much as I liked the first one.

This blurb says:

When something is perfect, you hope it never ends...

Isabel's lazy, long hot summers at her family friends' beach house are over:

Conrad - sexy and unavailable - is the only boy she's ever loved. He's left for college, taking her heart with him. Jeremiah - his gorgeous brother. is still Isabel's best friend - but maybe friendship isn't enough for him anymore...

Isabel just wants everything to stay the same, because change means moving on. But if she stops looking back, will she find a future she never knew she wanted?

And finally my favourite book of the month was Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I have been waiting to read this book for ages and I LOVED it...I am planning on writing a review on it because I loved it so so so much. It's amazing and I can't wait to get Pretties within the next couple of weeks...

The back reads:

Tally can't wait to turn 16 and become Pretty. 16 is the magic number that brings a transformation from a repellent, Ugly into a stunningly attractive Pretty, and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.

But Tally's new friend, Shay, isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world - and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can ever imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn Pretty at all. The choice Tally makes will change her world forever.

Anyway that's all from me for this month and i'll be back again soon with my review of Uglies so stay tuned for that...

General Rant...Work...

Hey everyone/anyone,

Just wanted to chat to be perfectly honest. It's been a long time since I last blogged...well a week or two...but oh well.

Wanted to come on here and have a rant about how much I despise my job. I've only been working there for a month but I hate it with a passion. Not so much the people because all of the girls I work with are lovely but my boss is a complete cow and to be honest I don't like the environment which i'm working in. I've printed off my new and improved CV today and plan on handing it in to some places over the next few days, so hopefully i'll get a better job somewhere more to my taste soon.

I have college all day tomorrow but I am sad to say i'm going to miss it so much over the summer. I love our wee class and the boys seriously crack me up...don't think any of them are reading this but if they are then hello gang!!! Pub? As always the answer to Pub? is always yes and that's why I love these guys...

Who on earth looks forward to college? I get up on a Friday and want to cry because i've not got college all weekend...although the alternative is work and I feel like the days that I am in college are my days off because I don't have to run about crazy for hours.

What I would do if I won £50...

Every single week I enter the East Kilbride shopping centre fantastic Friday competition and every week without fail I do not win, i'm hoping that, ironically, Friday the 13th (known as the unluckiest day of the year) will be my lucky day...

Anyway if I were to have the pleasure of winning 50 smackers I would first make a trip to Waterstones, my favourite place on earth, and buy some books from that giant list which I have been making for the last couple of months.

Then I would probably realise that most of the money was gone and so I wouldn't really get to spend it on anything else...

If only it was win £1,000,000 or at least £1,000 but no. It's £50 which can so easily be spent in one shop, one night out or even one meal with the family.

The amount of nail polish I could buy with £50 is quite a lot, come to think of it Lush would be the best place to buy stuff that is essentially free but unfortunately East Kilbride is not yet sophisticated enough for a Lush store...

Book Review - The Summer I Turned Pretty... ✰✰✰✰✰

Oh My,

This book was so good, a lovely short summery read that had just the perfect amount of romance. It was such an easy book to read and the story was really cute, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to try the next one.

Plot
The story is set in the Summer where the main character Belly spends her summers at a summer house on the beach with her mother and her brother. Also at the beach house are another family, Belly's mum's best friend and her two sons Jeremiah and Conrad, who are a pair of hotties of course. The story revolves around Belly and her summers at the house with her giving flashbacks from previous years and how her love for Conrad grew. The back of the book simply says:

"There's the swimming pool at night, the private stretch of beach - and the two boys.

Conrad - Unavailable, Aloof - Who she has been in love with forever.

Jeremiah - Friendly, Relaxed - The only one who has ever really paid her any attention.

But this year something is different. They seem to have noticed her for the first time. It's going to be an amazing summer...and one she'll never forget"

Characters
Belly is not described in great detail and can easily be related to by the reader. I really liked Belly's character and her love for Conrad reminds me so much of the crushes I had in high school...Jeremiah seems to be the cute, brotherly type who is sweet and perfect boyfriend material whereas Conrad is everybody's favourite bad boy who is unstable and mysterious...

All in all this is a really good wee book that I recommend to anyone who likes a little romance and an easy read.

Talk to you all soon

March Book Haul...

Sorry this post is a little late this month. I am aware that it is now nearly 10 days late but as they say better late than never right?

So this month I bought a few books right at the start of the month and they will be included in this blog but I also just bought some more books today for my April Book Haul, which by this rate wont be posted until about July...

Anyway here we go.

The first book I bought at the start of the month was Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, I was so excited after reading the hunger games that I went out and got this straight away. I have already read it but it wasn't that good so didn't deserve a review of it's own. I had huge expectations for this book because The Hunger Games was amazing, i'm not saying it was awful, it was still a really good book and was definitely a better read than the one i'm moving onto next.

The next book which I got was a major disappointment which surprised me because of how much I liked the first one and how much I didn't mind the second one. But Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins was a real struggle. First of all it took me weeks and weeks to read this compared to the other 2 and the whole storyline was really boring to be honest. I honestly haven't got much else to say about this book.

The third book I bought this month was The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern which is another book i'm struggling with. It's taking me longer to get into this one but I am hoping that  I can get into it if I keep going. Plus I only bought that book because of the cover...it is beautiful...I even payed extra for it.

The final book I got this month was The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han which is amazing. I'm so engrossed in this book that I really can't put it down, it's a really easy book to read and is definitely the perfect book for the summer and because it is part of a series I plan on getting the next one very soon. So far i'm really enjoying it and hopefully there will be a review by the end of the day.

I also got another book this month that I was dying to read but the postman managed to lose it...

Adam Lambert...♥

Soooo, I wanted to have a wee chat with you guys. Recently I started listening to Adam Lambert again after a long time of not listening to his songs. I think it was because he never brought out another album after a long time. But now i've been listening to the demos for the new album and listening to pretty much every other song that he has ever sung and have fallen back in love with the beautiful man...

From the new album i've heard a snippet of Naked Love, Cuckoo, Never Close Your Eyes and Trespassing and so far I love them all especially Naked Love. I've also decided that if he does another tour I am definitely going because i'm sure he is just as beautiful in person as he is on TV, which is pretty damn beautiful.

Also who can resist a little bit of Adommy ;)
